Two Days. Thousands of Finds. Zero Regrets.

Smithfield's biggest weekend market packs food, plants, imports, and hidden treasures into one massive open-air event.

About Us

Saturday and Sunday, Brightleaf Flea Market throws open its gates at 7 AM and the energy hits you immediately. Vendors line up across acres of indoor stalls and outdoor rows, hawking everything from fresh produce and tropical plants to hand-carried imports you genuinely won't find at any strip mall. With over 2,100 five-star reviews from shoppers across Johnston County and beyond, this place has earned its reputation as a weekend institution.

The crowd is as diverse as the merchandise. On any given morning you'll hear three languages before you finish your first food-stand breakfast, browse ceramics from overseas next to a booth full of locally grown fruit, and stumble on a deal that makes the whole trip worth it. Vendors rotate, stock changes weekly, and that unpredictability is exactly the point.

Located at 2320 S Brightleaf Blvd in Smithfield, NC, the market sprawls far enough that first-timers often underestimate it. Wear comfortable shoes, bring a reusable bag or a rolling cart, and plan for at least a few hours. The outdoor section alone can fill a morning.

What We Offer

The market covers more ground than most people expect. Inside you'll find clothing, electronics, tools, collectibles, and household goods at prices that reward patient browsing. Step outside and the scale expands again: rows of plant vendors, fresh fruits and vegetables, food stalls serving hot meals, and specialty booths carrying imported goods from Latin America, Asia, and beyond.

Food options are a genuine highlight, not an afterthought. Multiple vendors serve hot breakfast and lunch throughout the day, so you can eat your way through a shopping trip without ever leaving the property. Live animals, seedlings, and potted plants draw a crowd of their own on busy weekends.

Both days run 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Saturday and Sunday only. Arrive early for the best vendor selection and the coolest temperatures, especially in summer when the uncovered outdoor aisles can heat up fast. Bring cash, as many vendors don't accept cards.

"Brightleaf Flea Market has a lively atmosphere with a wide variety of vendors and plenty of food options. It definitely draws a diverse crowd, and depending on where your booth is located, you may get a good amount of foot traffic. As a vendor, my experience has been mixed. My first visit went fairly well, but the second time was much slower. Many shoppers here are looking for bargain bin pricing or next to free items, so higher quality pieces or name‑brand clothing don’t always move, even at very low prices. For example, I had a Tommy Hilfiger polo priced at $3 and it still got put back, which gives you an idea of the buying expectations. The market offers a unique environment, but vendors should be prepared for a strong bargain hunter mindset. The bathroom situation could definitely be improved, but overall the market has potential depending on the day and the crowd."

"Great variety but bring you walking shoes, a shopping bag/buggy and an umbrella. This place is huge and outside is even bigger. If its not raining, the sun will roast you so regardless of what the forecast is, bring your umbrella for rain and shade!"

"I visited the Smithfield flea market for the first time, and I loved it. There is a huge variety of products from different countries: food, plants, fruits, animals, things you rarely find in regular markets. The place is very large, well-stocked, and clean. The vendors are also very friendly. It’s definitely a great place to explore and find unique items."

"The only reason it not getting 5 stars is because the parking atendants suck. Was stuck in traffic for an hour. The parking attendees need to communicate one will let 4 cars out at a time the. 1 car from another line. Besides that the food selection is excellent."

"I’m giving this a 1-star review solely because of the parking situation. When we arrived, it took nearly 2–3 hours just to find a parking spot. By the time we finally got in, some vendors were already packing up since they close at 4 PM, which was really disappointing. The traffic management was extremely poor both entering and exiting. On the way out, outgoing traffic blocked incoming cars, making it nearly impossible for anyone else to get in and park. At one point, we were stuck in the same lane for 2 hours without moving. Overall, the food, vendors, and the people themselves were great and made a positive impression. Unfortunately, the lack of proper parking and traffic control completely overshadowed what could have been a really enjoyable experience."

What days and hours is Brightleaf Flea Market open?

The market is open Saturday and Sunday only, from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM. It is closed Monday through Friday every week.

Is the market indoors, outdoors, or both?

Both. There is a large indoor section with permanent and rotating vendors, plus a substantial outdoor area with additional booths and rows. The outdoor section is uncovered, so bring sunscreen and an umbrella depending on the weather.

What kinds of products can I find there?

The range is genuinely wide: clothing, tools, electronics, collectibles, furniture, fresh produce, tropical and garden plants, live animals, imported foods and goods from multiple countries, and much more. Vendor mix changes weekly, so no two visits are identical.

Is there food available at the market?

Yes, multiple food vendors operate on-site both days. You can find hot breakfast and lunch options throughout the day without leaving the property.

Should I bring cash?

Yes. Many individual vendors are cash-only, so it is strongly recommended to bring cash. Some vendors may accept cards, but you should not count on it for every booth.

How large is the market and how long should I plan to spend?

It is very large. Most visitors underestimate the size on their first trip. Plan for at least two to three hours if you want to cover both the indoor and outdoor sections. Comfortable walking shoes and a rolling cart or large bag will make the experience much easier.
